The hobbyist community is a key value proposition for what makes Autodesk Fusion so great. At the same time, they’re not here to squeeze out the Hobbyists. It’s in Autodesk’s best interest to see Startups (small businesses) exceed – they want to groom them into lifelong customers. Rest assured, I’ve had many conversations with the folks at Autodesk, and they’ve reiterated many times they have no plans to do so. The Future of Free Autodesk Fusion (‘Fusion 360’)Ī lot of hobbyist users have expressed fear of Autodesk eventually pulling the plug on them – forcing them to pay a monthly subscription (or even worse, to pay the same fee as commercial users). 3D Printer Review: Kingroon KP3S 3D Printer.3D Printer Review: MINGDA Magician X 3D Printer.3D Printer Review: Wizmaker P1 3D Printer with Voice Control.3D Printer Review: Artillery Sidewinder X2 3D Printer. What Type of Modeling is Autodesk Fusion?.Autodesk Fusion Beginner's Checklist - Updated 2024.Autodesk Fusion Hotkeys PDF - Updated 2024.It is getting there, but, in my opinion, there is a better option in that case. It is still too damn slow, and still crashes too much. I do refuse to teach with Fusion, though (I use Inventor there). ![]() ![]() I don’t have to love everything about the product. If AD gives it away for free to students, and that is what my institution has a contract for, and SolidWorks doesn’t, then that is what I use for teaching. If my clients use AD products, then I must as well. I have the same concerns with OnShape (they singed their users several years ago…).īased on where I am career-wise right now, I use what I must, though I do not love everything about the software or the suppliers. The ownership of the product (edit: user generated content) is something I have not looked at in this case, but others in the industry have rather feudal terms. It had a better user interface, better programming interface, and didn’t crash. It has always been a way of pushing the product ahead of other commercial options, as well as the free ones.īack in the day, in conventional CAD, I much preferred CadKey. This has been part of their model since the early 1990’s, and works well for them. It looks good, but also brings a cadre of people into the workplace that know Autocad well, and reject other products. They became who they are not by having the best product, but by building client base, in large part by giving it away cheap (and free) to students. Autodesk didn’t pioneer the model, but has pretty much moved there, and not always in the most client-friendly way. The trend across the software industry is subscription rather than license.
